POPE: A PREMONITION IGNORED AND QUESTIONS UNANSWERED

On Wednesday April 10, 2024, news  broke on several social media outlets especially Facebook and Instagram about the death of a Nigerian movie star John Paul Obumneme Odonwodo aka Junior Pope. Few hours later,  news broke again that he did not die. 'He's breathing!' chorused several social media outlets. Few days later, his death was confirmed.


According to sources, Jnr Pope was in a speed boat on his way back from a movie shoot in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria, when the boat collided with another boat in Anam river in Anambra State and four of the occupants including Jnr Pope drowned and died! Several hours after the accident, divers recovered all the bodies of the victims of the boat mishap. One spectacular thing about the body of late Jnr Pope was that his stomach was not bloated as expected of someone who drowned in the sea! His shirt was torn and he bled in both nose and mouth - an indication that there was an internal injury and that he probably had a fight with some one in the water. These observations raised suspicion that he might have died of something else in the river and not from drowning. 

Another reason some people gave for suspecting that Junior Pope was probably murdered in the river was that the particular boat he was said to be travelling in, had no Junior Pope in it! One of the passengers in that unfortunate boat named TC Virus was seen with other passengers except Junior Pope. 'So how come TC Virus said Junior Pope was in that boat with him and was making video when clearly I have watched this video many times and couldn't see junior pope in that particular boat?' someone observed. 'Why was Junior Pope's clothes torn? Was it the river goddess that tore his clothes?' another person quibbled.

Well, the circumstances  surrounding Junior Pope's death is not our focus in this piece. Rather, the fact that Junior Pope had a premonition about his death and apparently  did nothing about it worries us.

We saw Junior Pope in a video in a speed boat expressing his discomfort in the boat. He was heard saying that he has three children and that if he dies,  'who will train my children'? 

A popular Ghanian prophet named Karma President prophesied Junior Pope's death few months before he died. Junior Pope probably misunderstood premonition for superstition and decided to ignore all the warnings about the misfortune that was to befall him.

After the biblical era, God has never come down from heaven to warn people about impending doom. He has always done that through signs and premonitions. One can avoid unpleasant situations in one's life if one takes seriously events around one's  life such as we saw in the last days of Junior Pope. This is not superstition. It is merely heeding warnings from unknown and sometimes unseen voices urging someone to change his or her course of action. Acting on  premonitions could save one from unpleasant situations.  and even death.

May the soul of Junior Pope and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen

THE TOLL GATE TRAGEDY: A GROWING SAFETY CONCERN IN OTA

Toll Gate is a well-known landmark in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. The area got its name from the toll gate that once existed there during the democratic presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. It is strategically located at the boundary between Lagos State and Ogun State along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway. In addition to generating revenue for road maintenance and infrastructure development, the toll gate also helped regulate and monitor traffic moving between the two states.
