For some trivial reasons, certain men break their lover’s heart, believing they will escape any consequences. Some do this intentionally, while others hide behind excuses, claiming it was unintentional. This story illustrates the gravity of such actions. Many years ago, a 28-year-old man named Femi proposed to a 25-year-old woman named Funmilayo, who accepted. During their first year of courtship, they eagerly planned their future as husband and wife. Femi’s parents, especially his mother, were excitedly awaiting the day their son would marry the woman they had already embraced as their daughter-in-law. Their courtship lasted two years, but no wedding took place. Early in the third year, Femi suddenly told Funmilayo he would not marry her as promised. He claimed he had found another woman who had captured his heart in a way he couldn’t explain, and just like that, they parted ways. A few months later, Femi married this new woman and appeared happily settled. Devastated by this betrayal, Funmilayo developed a deep resentment toward men, tempted to label all men as untrustworthy. She resolved never to enter a serious relationship again. Two years into his marriage, Femi faced another challenge: he was unable to have children. Despite visiting numerous hospitals, prayer houses, and spiritual centers, no solution was found. Finally, a seer told him he was the cause of his childlessness. This confused Femi, as medical tests confirmed both he and his wife were fertile. Seeking clarity, Femi consulted several other seers in a neighboring village. Each one repeated the same message: he was the root of his problem. Troubled, Femi reflected on his past and realized the seers were referring to his broken promise to Funmilayo. One seer explained that Funmilayo’s spirit was angry and would not forgive him, and until she did, he would remain childless. This revelation struck Femi deeply. He was left wondering if he could find the courage to seek Funmilayo’s forgiveness—and whether she would grant it. Femi’s predicament is a direct result of his rash decision to abruptly end a promising relationship for a flimsy reason. He could not simply discard years of love because another woman “won his heart” overnight. The lesson is clear: if you do not treat others as you wish to be treated, be prepared to face the consequences. Femi’s story is a powerful reminder that we often reap what we sow. THE TOLL GATE TRAGEDY: A GROWING SAFETY CONCERN IN OTA

Toll Gate is a well-known landmark in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. The area got its name from the toll gate that once existed there during the democratic presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. It is strategically located at the boundary between Lagos State and Ogun State along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway. In addition to generating revenue for road maintenance and infrastructure development, the toll gate also helped regulate and monitor traffic moving between the two states. In 2012, during the administration of Ibikunle Amosun, the construction of the Ilo Awela Road was awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria. The project was aimed at linking Ota with inner parts of the city, including Oju Ore, Osi, Command, Ogba Ayo, AIT, and Iyana Iyesi.
